BRIAN GRANT

You Catch Light Photography was founded as a father (Brian) & son (Leon) portrait photography company. My father Brian became a cameraman in 1970 for ATV studios. During the 1980s he formed a Music Video Production Company called MGMM & went on to direct some of the most famous music videos ever made.

LEON GRANT

Leon worked in Post Production visual effects for the past 20 years making TV, Music Videos, Film & Commercials.

“The expressiveness of the human face, the fascinating stories & very often the fun that would be had from learning someone’s personal story during a portrait session has always been at the root of why I love photography” he says. “Photography for me is the perfect blend of creative & technical & it can give such instantaneously satisfying results for both the subject & myself.”

“Growing up in our household there were always cameras dotted around. From film cameras to those cumbersome first VHS cameras, I think you could say that I got pretty used to being photographed as a kid. Most people do not naturally enjoy having their picture taken & I learnt a lot about empathising & how to encourage the person in front of the lens to relax & make them feel more photogenic. Once we build a person’s confidence in the process it enables us to capture a much more genuine photo of you. Most of all if we can encourage you to enjoy yourself it’s almost certain that we are too.”

With Brian & Leon’s varied skillsets & technical backgrounds, forming a partnership seemed like a very natural decision & one that they are both very grateful to have made.
